SpaceX Starship MK3 development, Falcon 9 CRS-19 Dragon mission, and Orion/Super Guppy

We have a load of SpaceX updates to share with you today. SpaceX Starship MK3 development, Falcon 9 CRS-19 Dragon mission, and Orion has been transported for testing with the Super Guppy aircraft. Since the explosion happened the other week and destroyed the MK1 starship, there’s a lot of new plans taking place with SpaceX Starship MK3 development. A very interesting Falcon 9 launch coming up which is the nineteenth commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station. And then on top of all this, the Orion capsule that is destined to fly on the first Artemis mission arrived for some intense testing inside the largest vacuum chamber in the world at Plum Brook Station.

  • Space X has the ingenuity...they have the technology....they are doing something NEW....they have the belief of the public and the momentum that goes with it. NOBODY ELSE DOES! The competition is just trying to tweak old ideas and technologies. Space X WILL leave everyone else in the dust. The future of rocketry and space exploration belong to Elon Musk!

  • Absolutely SLS will fly before Starship, for good reasons too. SLS is expendable! SpaceX need to worry about getting to space AND returning to Earth safely, that's at least twice as much as NASA have to worry about.

  • We need to petition Elon Musk to not stop at colonizing Mars but to also begin work on a generational exploration fleet. For humanity to truly survive and thrive we must scatter ourselves like dust in the wind. Its incredibly dangerous to just sit here on earth waiting for pollution, war, disease, or natural disaster to wipe us out. We are past due for a large asteroid impact.

  • That rocket shaped prop isn't going to space. It's a prop in another of the rent seeking conman's scams. It's shiny and resembles spacecraft in comic books and old scifi films so as to draw in the unsuspecting. Stainless steel is too heavy for rockets (The most important thing in rocket design: weight, weight, weight). Unpainted rockets, especially shinny ones, are prone to uneven heating. Uneven heating fouls the tolerances in structure and aerodynamics. Also, paint smooths out any slight imperfections that might also cause aerodynamic problems. AT 2:54, one can see huge imperfection in the skin of that rocket prop. That prop, bird, and any designed and built like it, isn't going to fly. TheranosX.

Use dated and warn BFR's to create the Braun. Once up and running, Migrate the thing to Mars. Knock Off all these side roads. Every step needs to be forwards.

  • I love the way Space X is building these things in the Open Air. Some what like a Shade Tree Mechanic would build a project. I actually find it comforting. Elon and Space X IS going to get Man to Mars. I've seen the first Man in space. First Man on the Moon. I really wish to see the First Man on Mars before my End Game. NASA had over 50 years to get the job done. FAIL ! Look what Elon has accomplished in less then 2 decades.

  • 70 odd years of space travel and still there is no proof we have even made it to the moon and frankly if we did, we did it in 10 years yet in the following 60 years with the important parts of space travel already ironed out just getting to orbit and yet we have nothing to show for the tens of trillions we have had to fork out in taxation and investment in private money making corporations! Space is like cancer if you succeed you put yourself and ALL your colleagues out of a life time career that does not transfer to another field! It makes no sense for anyone involved to actually succeed and no offence but space x is still pissing around with solid fuel rockets that can barely get us past low earth orbit and we done that! half a damned century ago! What happened to the fission engines we were told would take 30 years when its over 60 years since that promise so i call bullshit on this as much as everything else we are charged for but never fucking get!

You all talk about SLS slow development and delays, ok true scene since Congress contractors and developers are in the game..but Space X's starship is not going anywhere yet, as you can see they have a long road to cross, they are blowing up bulkheads at the everyone should relax on that Mars interplanetary manned dreams for the moment! Achieve the basic goal and then we talk re usability. For f...sake they can't even make a bullet proof car window yet. To much hype there on their mega structure designs that shrink every year!

If this is what makes you interested and or even proud, let alone consider it a legitimate technology, then you have lower standards of evolution than my freaking dog does.

  • I think quite possibly spacex has studied the micro organizm known as MORGHELLONS!! I believe these to be generating methane gas and water as they self destruct explode in a major release if tgermal energy for their size. They thrive in 800-1,200 deg F. Deep inside the mantle in i would say the transition zine. These methane / thermal heat/H2O producing monsters are what is the regenerating fuel supply. To keep erths core generating energy at such great levels for 3 billion years. They are inside the fuel tanks and are going to be seeded on mars to burrow down deep and do their natural living / dieing processes.

  • I am so gratified and reassured my concepts and engineering skills are bang on!! After recently trying get a construction boilermaker company to partber with me in building a prototype SS vessel erection machine, and new better erection procedure that addresses SS weld distortion and denting. I concieved and drew up most of the gear and new tooling to form the rings out of custom ordered ss plate as it is sent out of factories. Much like this one being utilized at spacex now i know my system would be flawless as i have developed and used on a 30’x28’ SS vessel i was head erector and welder on. My verts were bang on radius and were if outstanding quality not seen on vessel verts in past jobs. Floor seems as well as horizontals were flat also (no peaking on horizontals)

  • I just wish someone would investigate real alternatives to rocket tech which is so old and nothing new. You can't have a credible space program with rockets or any other kinetic tech. Where's all the development of electrogravitic systems so popular in the later 1950's that suddenly went dark after it was advertised that there nearly there. So were back with large fireworks I can't take this too serious. Its almost 2020 not 1920 or 1820. Where's the advanced tech. I will admit Tesla now has reusable fireworks and self landing fireworks but we still so so primitive.

Michael DawsonMichael Dawson2 muaj më parë
  • I would be very (positively) surprised to see Starship going to orbit next year. I wouldn't expect them to make it that soon. But they will make it probably and at that point any other medium to heavy lift launch system that is not reusable will become obsolete immediately. Having said that, it might not be a bad idea to still develop SLS as a backup plan. You don't want everything riding on one company and one really out-of-the-box concept that could potentially fail in some way. There is something to say for a route that develops both the tried and tested road to a new small step as well as the experimental leap.

  • SLS will fly to the moon before Starship and here is why 1. The starship has used 0% proven parts. Consider also the bulkhead blowing off and how 1940s that is. This is not serious rocket development. 2. The SLS has been testing finalized articles since 2015. This includes the Orion capsule. They are using proven technology and move forward with production, even when they run into snags 3. The FINAL common core booster is 97% complete. This is the booster that has Shuttle engines which does not have to be R&D'd to death like the Raptors 4. Space X has serious issues with pressure vessels 5. There is zero training pathways for Starship for upcoming astronauts. For Boeing and Dragon v2, there are contracts and committed tech 6. NASA, FTC and FAA will be more reluctant to grant certifications, licensing, and human rating to Starship

  • The Boeing Super Guppy aircraft was developed from the USAAF C97 cargo plane which began flying in 1944. The wings and first generation engines were taken from the B29 of world war two. They flew until the late seventies but this is one of two that were modified to serve NASA during the Apollo program and is still in use today. In 1947 a civil passenger aircraft emerged too. It had two decks and was designated the Boeing 377. It was used primarily for long haul trans ocean flights. A venerable airframe indeed. Do I remember these? Yep... sure do. They were noisy as hell but no one seemed to mind.

  • Sorry SLS, you're a dead rocket walking. At $2 billion per launch for the cost, and how NASA clearly put their thumbs on the scale in the development of the crew portion between Boeing and SpaceX (SpaceX got the short end of the stick), it's time to kill off SLS. As a tax payer, I see NASA as bloated, crooked and frankly, you need to get out of the launch business. After going to the Moon, you spent 45 years driving around the block. You guys killed 14 astronauts for "experiments" in space. NOT worth the cost. Yeah, I said it.
