SpaceX Starship Updates - Starlink v1-1 Launch Preparations

Welcome to Episode 49 of What about it!?
In this Episode, we will take a look at the progress done on the SpaceX Starship Prototype in Boca Chica Texas. The canard fins are almost done and the Launch Facility is progressing at a crazy pace. Last but not least, we will have a look at the launch preparations going on right now for the Starlink v1-1 launch!

  • What’s that distributor for and how often can a Falcon fairing be reused?

What about it!?What about it!?4 muaj më parë
    • @Onemynde This section had to be removed in order to lower equipment into the cone. As we can see tape over some areas but not others, you're certainly right about more radial thrusters needing installation.

David OgawaDavid Ogawa4 muaj më parë
    • @Ajaguarb Other ships were sent out to recover them from the water.

David OgawaDavid Ogawa4 muaj më parë
    • Felix, at 2:52 this is the cut-off nose of Starship. The structure has radial thruster nozzles. Got to have some high thrust to flip Starship hard and keep it vertical in the last seconds, no matter what irregular ground must be adapted to by the legs. The nozzles are staggered in order to fit all the valves on the manifold inside.

David OgawaDavid Ogawa4 muaj më parë
    • @What about it!? It looks like the very tip of the nose cone currently upside down while they install the cold gas thrusters, eventually to be flipped and welded on the very top of the upper section during final assembly.

Look to the left of the screen and you'll see what I mean , it's fake !!!! It was filmed under water that's why we are seeing bubbles bubbling. space x you can't fool everyone.

  • Felix, at 2:52 this "distributor" is the cut-off nose of Starship. The structure has radial pointing thruster nozzles. The nozzles are staggered in order to fit all the valves/plumbing on the manifold inside. I expect that only 2 adjacent or a single thrusters will fire at once.

  • Actually it would be really interesting to see how SpaceX goes about verifying structural Integrity after the fairing is retrieved what steps do they go through inspection before they release it for reuse?

  • #whydonttheyjust Since starship is so cheap to launch we should discus the possibility of sending two or three crewed starships on their journey to Mars side by side (maybe only a few KM apart) at half or 2/3 capacity. That way if a major system fails along the way they could simply dock to each other and transfer precious people and cargo to functioning companion ships. The other major advantage would be the psychological sanity of the crew knowing that their companions are practically right by their side..

  • As long as there is no structural defects with the fairing then I see no reason it can't be used indefinitely. I assume it gets examined in depth before being used again. Should be no problem. Falcons on the other hand... well this is the 4th launch. They are rated at 10 but I doubt it will make it to 10. Look forward to the Starship which definitely can be used hundreds of times no problem. Difference is the falcon was designed for partial re usability. Starship is designed for total re-usability.

Like any weapon, it's neither good nor bad on it's own. It's all a question of WHO is using it and WHAT they do with it.

  • Well, launch, and landing, went off without a hitch. No fairing catch due to high seas. Oh, well, maybe they can fish them out of the water. The video from the landing on the boat was superb. I don't think it has ever been that good before. Landings are always the best part. If they ever get a firm date for the Mk-1 launch, I am seriously thinking of driving down for it. It's only about 350 miles (580 km) miles away. Not far for us Texans. It will depend on scheduling around some other things I have going on. I'd love to see that baby go up and come back down again. Currently they have 24 launches scheduled for next year, including nine Starlink launches. Obviously, if things go well, they have the ability to add more Starlinks. I would love to see them achieve a cadence of one Starlink launch every two weeks plus their outside customers. Spacex continues to revolutionize the space industry, and the competition doesn't even understand what's happening, much less have any idea of how to catch up.
